The Artists: Juliet Haas

About the Work
Juliet Haas's series Return To The Desert is part of an ongoing project examining abandoned structures dotting the isolated desert landscape throughout Southern California. Structures and locations full of energy are archeological artifacts, left behind by their previous inhabitants.
Juliet has been traveling these interstate highways to her childhood home from Los Angeles for more than twenty years and has been witness to the steady decline and neglect that a deteriorating economy has left scarred on many of these villages.

Juliet's imagery foucuses on finding the beauty hiding behind the light, on the edges of shadow, and it is these isolated moments of dense emotion that inspire her vision. https://www.juliethaas.studio

About the Artist
Juliet was raised in the high desert terrain outside Reno, Nevada. She spent her teens chasing lizards, modeling and playing the Clarinet. In her senior year of High School she was awarded the American Legion Award and the Momand Music Scholarship to attend University of Nevada Reno.
In 1988 Juliet relocated to Los Angeles to meet her father and pursue a modeling career, and it was during her one casting tour through Vienna and Milan that she first discovered her passion for framing, light, and depth of field. Her drive became learning to manipulate a camera in such a way that she could capture what she was seeing.

Juliet studied the crafts of Architectural Drafting, Construction Technology, Interior Design and Creative Writing before discovering Black & White Printing in the traditional darkroom. Juliet lives and works in sunny Southern California. Her work has been featured in several group exhibitions.
