About the Work
The series, Scene and Heard, combines reality and illusion by merging image and text. Like a snapshot collector without specific direction, I recorded snippets of conversations I overheard in Hollywood. Overtime, I decided to pair these snippets to seemingly random photographs I captured in the desert months earlier. Two separate and unrelated contexts combined to create a specific viewpoint when there is none to be had. The (mis)interpretation of truth happens on a regular basis throughout our day as we make up stories in our heads … convincing ourselves they are founded in reality. The truth is, there is no meaning (to anything) except the meaning we put to it I explore these themes and others through observation of tiny details using my photographs almost as storyboards for a low budget film. debeArlookphotography.com
